2016 BMW M2 Has Been Spotted 0
The new BMW M2 has been spotted in its last stages of testing, pending its launch early next year in 2016. The M2 is set to be unveiled at the Detroit Motor Show in January while the M2 is said to cost around £45,000 when it finally lands in showrooms around the UK. These spotted tests on the M2’s have mostly been driving around public roads; however certain M2’s have been around the iconic Nürburgring circuit in Germany.
The M2 will be powered by a turbocharged 3.0 litre six-cylinder engine which is expected to produce around 370+ brake horsepower. There are no official figures as of yet but it’s said that the M2 is suggested to do 0-62mph in a time of 4.4seconds, using the dual clutch seven speed transmission. There will be two different transmission types available, the seven speed dual clutch gearbox with steering wheel mounted paddle shifts, and the six speed-manual. Both of these will be incorporating an automatic start/top and brake energy recuperation as well as a thermal energy recovery function.
Body and Styling
The latest test car that has been spotted on public roads has shown off the body of the BMW M2 and gives us a very good idea this is what the final production car will look like. The pictures show the quad-exit ‘M-double’ exhaust at the rear of the car which is synonymous of BMW’s M Power cars. The test car also reveals flared wheel arches, a more aggressive looking front end, bigger brakes and larger wheels.
The BMW M2 is looking like its set to be a great car; however it is going up against some great cars from its German rivals, like the Mercedes A45 AMG and the Audi RS3. We will have to wait until early 2016 to know the final specs of the car and see if they can push that 370bhp up to the 400bhp mark BMW would like to achieve.
