Lewis Hamilton wins the World Title in style 0

Nicole-Scherzinger-and-Lewis-Hamilton-in-Abu-Dhabi-539161Lewis Hamilton could be well on his way to becoming the greatest British Driver ever after winning his second World Title in Abu Dhabi on Sunday.

Only four British drivers have managed to win two World Titles in the past. Many predict that Hamilton will go on to win many more in his career.

The 29 year old said that yesterday was the “Greatest day of my life”, saying that the day eclipsed the 2008 title winning day.

In control for the whole race

All he needed to do was to finish 2nd in the race in order to claim the World Title, but he managed to finish in 1st place, ensuring that he won in style. He managed to take the lead immediately ahead of Mercedes teammate Nico Rosberg. The Briton was already in the lead before the first corner. After taking the lead he managed to stay in control for pretty much the whole race. The race was very comfortable for Hamilton in the end.

Rosberg running into problems

Rosberg eventually has to settle for 14th place after his car ran into trouble. As the German car hit mechanical problems, he asked his team what he needed to do to finish fifth, a result that would have given him the title if Hamilton retired.

Joining an elite list

The 2008 champion became only the fourth Briton to win two world titles. Former F1 Jim Clark and Graham Hill both won the title twice, whereas Jackie Stewart managed to win it three times. He also joins modern-day rival Fernando Alonso, who has also managed to win the World Championship twice. Sebastian Vettel, another current rival of Hamilton has four. The all-time record holder is Michael Schumacher with seven.

Prince Harry and Nicole Schrezinger showing support

Prince Harry was on hand to congratulate Hamilton on winning the title, saying “Lewis, well done for not making the British public sweat. You are an absolute legend” on the team radio. Girlfriend Nicole Schrezinger was in Abu Dhabi with Hamilton’s family to show their support.

33rd win of career

Hamilton’s win in Abu Dhabi was his 11th victory of the season, which allowed him to finish 67 points clear at the top. He is now fifth in the all-time single race victory list, with 33 in his career so far. Nico Rosberg, his nearest rival has only won five races this season.
