The new Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport 1

vauxhall-insignia-vxr-supersport-2The new Vauxhall Insignia VXR SuperSport has been refreshed and will be shown off at the Frankfurt Motor Show.  Can it finally succeed on the UK market?

The best feature of the car has to be it’s wonderful 321 BHP engine. The V6 engine has a top speed of 170 MPH. It is according to Vauxhall the fastest car of it’s type available in the UK for under £30,000. The 0 – 60 MPH time is only 5.9 seconds, a very fast time indeed. The gearbox will be a six speed manual transmission which works perfectly in sync with the engine.

The car has received a facelift, with official images being shown off in the automotive press before it’s showcase next month. So what’s changed? The Insignia now has a new front bumper which Vauxhall described as being ‘Sabre Tooth’ like. There are general changes around the car which give it a more aggressive and powerful look. The new lights at the front and rear give the car a more stylish look.

The interior has changed a great deal too. The centre console design now has a 8 inch touchscreen infotainment system, a common feature in luxury vehicles and a worthwhile optional extra. Digital radio has been included. Other Optional extras include Bluetooth internet connectivity and 3D navigation.

The styling is not the only changes however. The AWD’s chassis has been tuned. The HiPerStrusts are to stay within the vehicle. These help the car’s drive and performance by keeping its sense of gravity around corners. The handling of the car in general has been improved. The car’s ESP and adaptive damping systems have been upgraded. The noise vibration has been reduced greatly.

The vehicle is quite specialised to a particular market. How well will the car perform on the UK car market? It certainly seems like a great deal of improvements have been made and previous issues have been addressed. Since 2009 the Vauxhall Insignia has struggled for attention somewhat. This recent revamp should give it a serious boost. Sales figures have been modest over the past few years, perhaps it’s time the car had its day. The automotive press have been reporting on the news and have nothing but good things to say about the refreshed model.

Orders can now be taken on the Vauxhall Insignia SuperSport. The hatchback costs £29,749 and the Sports Tourer will cost £31,049.
