Want to own Top Gear’s ‘reasonably priced’ Vauxhall Astra? 0

Don’t know what to get a huge Top Gear fan for Christmas? How about Top Gear’s celebrity-driven “reasonably priced car”?

That’s right, you could own a piece of Top Gear history (but only if you’ve got quite a bit of spare cash lying around). BBC’s Top Gear is selling their 2013 Vauxhall Astra on eBay, with all the proceeds going to the automotive industry charity BEN.

The eBay posting tells us the five-door hatchback is a Tech Line model in Power Red, with a 1.6-litre petrol engine capable of 115bhp. The car has only driven a total of 2,908 miles, comes with 17-inch 10-spoke alloy wheels and a three-spoke leather-covered sports steering wheel. The bonus tech features include a sat-nav system with 7-inch colour monitor, USB connection with iPod control, digital radio with six premium speakers and a multi-function trip computer.

The Vauxhall Astra also comes fitted with “front Corbeau Sprint Racing seats with 5-point safety belt harness and full roll-cage”. These racing additions mean the car has been modified and the airbags removed. The winning bidder must be aware that the car is not road legal in its selling state; the airbags would need to be reinstated for this. Although, if you’re willing to pay big money for the Top Gear hatchback, we’d imagine you’ll be keeping this intact for trips to the track.

An important note taken from the posting reads: “Bidders should be aware that the airbags have all been disabled making room for the roll-cage. To reinstate the airbags would involve removing the roll-cage and seating. So, in its current state, the car is not type-approved and should not be driven on the road. The Vauxhall Technical Team will work with the successful bidder at handover to fully explain how the vehicle has been adapted. Please be aware converting the vehicle back into use on the public highway would incur significant cost.”

So far, the car (as I type this) has accumulated 27 bids that total £10,301.00 and the bidding won’t stop until 10:54am on Sunday the 27th of December. We’re not quite sure how “reasonably priced” the Astra will be after the bidding war has finished but when you consider the amount of famous hands on that steering wheel, the price slowly starts to justify itself.

As seen on the last season of Top Gear, the Vauxhall Astra has been driven round the track by a whole host of celebrities. Topping the leader board is pop-star Olly Murs, with actors Nicholas Holt and Aaron Paul extremely close behind. Others celebs include Margot Robbie, Will Smith and Jimmy Carr.

All the details can be found on the eBay post linked above and… happy bidding!

UPDATE: As of 1pm 24/12/15 the Vauxhall Astra is now at a whopping £17,600! 66 bids and still three days left, this is one expensive ‘reasonably priced’ car!
