What are the Man United players driving? 0

what-are-the-man-united-players-drivingIt’s well documented how much money footballers make, and if you’ve got to the stage of your career where you’re playing for Manchester United – long established as one of the world’s top three richest football clubs – you’ve probably got more than most of your contemporaries.

So, when you can afford to buy any car you like, what do you go for? There’s a lot of choice out there.

Before tonight’s North-West derby, we take a look at the cars some of the Red Devils squad are driving.

Wayne Rooney – BMW i8

Things haven’t been going so well on the field for poor Wazza recently, either for United or England. But when it comes to the set of wheels, the skipper has got a fair bit of taste. During his career, the striker/deep lying midfielder/recent benchwarmer has been seen behind the wheel of numerous flashy offerings. His latest mode of transport takes some beating though. In recent months, Rooney has been spotted driving a BMW i8 hybrid.

Priced at around £105,000, the i8 has looks and performance stats to match the sports cars driven by many of his team mates. Rooney’s i8 combines that potent mix with an impressive efficiency. Its fuel economy clocks a sizable 134.5mpg with a CO2 emissions output of just 49g/km.

Other cars Rooney has been seen driving while he’s been a Manchester United player include the Aston Martin Vanquish, MINI Cooper, Audi RS 6, Bentley Continental and Lamborghini Gallardo.

Memphis Depay – Rolls-Royce Wraith

United’s Dutch forward Memphis Depay came to Old Trafford for around £25 million last season. His arrival caused quite a stir, though sadly not so much for his performances on the pitch. You can’t call into question the class of his motor though.

Depay has been spotted out and about driving a Rolls Royce Wraith. The ultra-luxury coupe is worth around £230,000 and this one a left hand drive model. Imported from Holland, where he picked it up during his stint at previous club PSV Eindhoven, Depay had the car imported to the UK. He’s also been seen driving a Mercedes G-Class – another big, luxurious, and footballer-y choice of vehicle.

Daley Blind – Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

The Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is the transport mode of choice for United utility man Daley Blind.

Due to the club’s sponsorship agreement with Chevrolet, the Dutch international had easy access to the powerful muscular sports car despite the company officially withdrawing from the UK market last year. The V8-run Corvette can do 0-62mph in 4.2 seconds, and the Corvette can still be ordered here for around £62,500.

Adnan Januzaj (currently on loan at Sunderland) is another of the United stable seen out and about in a Corvette, Daley meanwhile, has also been seen driving an Audi RS 7, which veteran midfielder Michael Carrick also drives.

David De Gea – Chevrolet Captiva

As mentioned above with Daley and his Corvette, the makers Chevrolet, owned by General Motors, has been a primary sponsor of Manchester United for several years now. A by-product of the deal was that all the players (and some of the staff) each received a free Chevrolet for their commute to work. Nice of them, wasn’t it?

David De Gea was particularly happy with his, and the goalkeeper is frequently seen driving into the Carrington training complex in the Chevrolet Captiva SUV, in its range topping LTZ trim.

Former manager Louis Van Gaal also drove a Captiva to work, although his hasn’t been seen there for some months…
