Dubai-polices-Bugatti-Veyron-officially-worlds-fastest-police-carIf you were to spot a Bugatti Veyron speeding through the streets of Dubai, you wouldn’t necessarily expect it to be the one doing the chasing.

But the supercar is the latest addition to the city police force’s stable of high performance vehicles, and is capable of hitting speeds of 253mph.

The Veyron is in illustrious company, joining a fleet of 13 other elite vehicles, including an Aston Martin One-77, a Lamborghini Aventador and Ferrari FF.

The exclusive range of cars was launched in 2013, as the police force took steps to improve their public image – according to CNN. They are mainly used to police tourist areas as a marketing tool.

Dubai police also has a raft of ambitious eco-friendly plans, and intends to have electric and hybrid cars making up a quarter of its fleet by 2030.

The Bugatti Veyron has usurped the world’s previous fastest police car, the Lamborghini Gallardo LP560-4, owned by the Italian force.
