Following his sensational maiden title triumph, the 31-year-old shocked the world of motorsport by announcing his retirement just five days later.

But the German driver could not resist taking his Mercedes F1 WO7 Hybrid car, which nailed him the title, for one final drive.

Rosberg captured the moment in all its glory by taking a high speed selfie. In footage released onto Youtube, the World Champion can be seen using his camera to take a picture of himself, as he poses at high speed.

His former team, Mercedes, have announced they’ll most likely wait until the end of January before naming the outgoing champ’s successor. Non executive director Niki Lauda admitted they had yet to make a decision on who would take Rosberg’s seat to team up with Lewis Hamilton for the 2017 season.

Fernando Alonso, Valtteri Bottas and Pascal Wehrlein have all been linked with the drive, but Lauda says no decision has yet been made.

“We are still making up our minds,” Lauda told Austrian television channel ServusTV.

“That is a huge discussion, really. It can take until the end of January until we know which route we are going to take.

“We had hoped for a faster solution, but the discussions prove to be difficult. There are two scenarios – we take a young gun like Wehrlein who could turn out to be a (Max) Verstappen, or he couldn’t. Or we take an experienced guy.”
