Mini show off hardcore John Cooper Works GP Concept 0

Mini has teased visitors to the Frankfurt Motor Show with a tasty looking little (as you’d expect) concept. Titled the John Cooper Works Concept, the rugged looking Mini embraces a aggressive design style.

Mini say the concept embodies driving fun ‘on both the race track and the road’ which implies it’s going to be something of a road-going race car, similar to the current MINI John Cooper Works Challenge.

This suggestion is strengthened by some of the ‘kit’ featured on the new car. Sporting a massive wing, fender flares that double as aerodynamics plus lower front splitters with air intakes, the John Cooper Works looks like it will mean business on the race track.

Other touches are 19-inch alloy wheels and interestingly, the rear LED lights display half the Union flag – a tip of the hat to the car’s original British origins.

The interior is decked out for proper racing, featuring low-mounted bucket seats, a roll cage and fire extinguisher. Gearshifts are made by paddles on the steering wheel.

The car makes good use of lightweight materials, especially carbon fibre which makes good economy of the power-to-weight ratio.

At present, the tantalising concept is all we have to get excited about, MINI said it could “not confirm whether a series-production model of the GP will be launched in the future. This concept is a design study.”
