Tesla post new record in car deliveries 0

Tesla-post-new-record-in-car-deliveriesIn what’s been a record quarter, Tesla has delivered just over 25,000 cars in the first three months of 2017.

Tesla reported this constitutes a 70 percent rise on the same period from last year which is welcome news for the electric car maker, which had posted a 9 percent drop in deliveries as 2016 drew to a close. The rise represents a significant rebound for the company.

Tesla was founded fourteen years ago, in 2003 and is controlled by entrepreneur Elon Musk, who also owns the space rocket firm, Space X.

Last week, Tencent Holdings, based in China purchased a 5 percent stake in the company for almost $1.8 billion. The investment is timely, seeing as Tesla is set to face an expensive year, as production rises with the Model 3 preparing for release.

Tesla have been publisizing the Model 3 as the “most affordable” of its offerings to date and are hoping the car nails down some mass market appeal.

In the US, where the Model 3 first goes on sale, it will be priced at £28,000 ($35,000). This is significantly cheaper then Tesla’s current models – the Model X (an SUV) and the Model S (a sporty saloon) are both priced at more than £56,000 ($70,000).

In the first quarter of 2017, Tesla sold and delivered 13,450 of the Model S and 11,550 of the Model X.
