New Jaguar Land Rover engine plant unveiled by Queen 3

Today the QuqueenJLReen opened the new Jaguar Land Rover plant in Wolverhampton. It will adjacent to the M54.

The new facility cost £500 million to build and will be used for engine manufacturing. With an official unveiling like this, it is clear that the new facility will be important for the British automotive industry.

Ingenium engine

The new plant is the size of 14 football pitches. It is also the company’s largest investment for engine development. The new generation Ingenium engine which is expected to be the main drivetrain for future of Jaguar models will have a great deal of research and development being processed here.

XE saloon

The 2.0 litre diesel engine will be the first engine to come off the production line from launch. The new XE saloon is guaranteed to have such an engine within. The engine is also expected to make its way to the Land Rover Discovery Sport.

The Ingenium diesel is one of the company’s best assets. The Jaguar XE, it is able to produce 161 BHP and achieve 75 MPG along with 99g/km of C02. That beats the BMW 3 Series for both performance and efficiency.

First deliveries for the XE are expected to be in May 2015.

The automotive industry

One of the best things about the new plant is the large amount of job creation. Almost 7,000 jobs are expected to be created. The economy is guaranteed to be boosted by such news.

Overall the automotive industry has been performing very well so far this year. The first nine months of car manufacturing in the UK is the highest it has been for six years, according to the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT).
