New Peugeot 508 coming next year featuring Instinct Concept-Inspired Looks 0

New-Peugeot-508-coming-next-year-featuring-Instinct-Concept-Inspired-LooksDespite the acquisition of Opel and Vauxhall from General Motors, Peugeot, or more specifically PSA, have not shirked from their intended plans to offer a D-segment saloon.

As a likely rival to the new Opel Insignia, Ford Mondeo and even the brand new Volkswagen Arteon, with a more raked roofline, the new 508 (the name is yet to be confirmed) remains on schedule for release in 2018.

The company’s Product Director, Laurent Blanchet, said at the recent Geneva Motor Show, that the new large family saloon would be positioned between the mainstream player and premium cars.

“The positioning of our brand is to be the best high-end mainstream. It means that we don’t want to be premium; there is another brand for that, which is DS. What we want is to be a very good generalist brand, and to be a very good generalist brand you have to be really present in the D-segment.”

The new car will take exterior styling inspiration from the recent Instinct Concept. The interior meanwhile will feature an updated version of the i-Cockpit layout that is sported by the new 3008 and 5008.

The new 508 will utilise the PSA EMP2 platform, which also supports plug-in hybrid tech and would allow PSA to offer a electric version of the car.

It’s thought that despite Peugeot continuing a D-segment version of the car, sister brand Citroen will drop the segment, as they have no intention of releasing an equivalent of the current C5. Instead, they will turn their attention to development of the C5 Aircross crossover, which will debut late 2017.
