2018 Renault Megane to have four-wheel steering 0

2018-Renault-Megane-to-have-four-wheel-steeringNext year’s Renaultsport Megane is to come equipped with four-wheel steering. The hot hatch, due to be launch in the spring of 2018, will be the first car of its kind ever, to feature the tech.

No definite information has been released about the new Megane RS, but the scant details that have come to light, already have fans of the fast hatch salivating at the prospect.

The four-wheel steering is a similar concept to that found of cars such as the Porsche 918 Spyder and the Ferrari GTC4 Lusso. The setup improves the vehicle’s agility and cornering ability by allowing the rear wheels to move, assisting steering.

When travelling at slower speeds, the back wheels steer in the opposite direction to the front, reducing the turning circle and increasing cornering agility.

The Megane GT already features the four-wheel setup, but the engineers at Renaultsport say that the system used for the RS will be ‘specifically calibrated’.

The new Megane will offer drivers a choice between a six-speed manual and a EDC automatic gearbox, plus two different chassis setup options: a Sport chassis (for everyday driving) and a Cup option (for track).

The car will sport the 1.8-litre turbocharged four-cylinder engine currently used by the new Alpine A110 sports car; the Megane version will be upgraded to produce around 300bhp.

More information is set to be released in September, with the car going on sale early 2018.
