Tesco attempt to make another mark in the car industry. 0

With car insurance as well as breakdown cover, Tesco have made yet another step to pursue further avenues within the car industry by launching Tescocars.com. The retailer recently became the first supermarket to launch its own second hand car sales website.
Tesco who take one pound of every seven spent by British shoppers aim to deliver a service that distinguishes itself from the typical salespeople and showroom. Unique from your conventional car sale, you can’t actually physically view or test the car. The only showroom is accessible only on their dedicated website. The price you see is the price will be the price you pay, meaning no haggling for customers to get a cheaper price.  There are two options, either to buy the car outright or to pre-order your car. Pre-ordering commands a fee of £99 which reserves the car while it is being returned to the vendor. If the pre-ordered car doesn’t get purchased, the reservation price is totally refunded.

Sir Trevor Chinn, chairman of Tesco Cars said “When buying a used car, consumers want to know they can trust the information supplied, that they are getting value for money and a good product, all supported by good customer service. Importantly they also want to be able to take their time to make the right purchase for them.” Thousands of cards are to be offered with each of them being independently checked for quality, with a choice of 3000 different cars weekly. According to the supermarket giant the selection of cars would have had only one owner with full service history. CEO of retailing services at Tesco Andrew Higginson quotes “The range of models – from electric cars designed for the city to family-sized MPVs – is immense.”

When a customer purchases a car it can be delivered to their home for a charge of £149 or picked up from a specified centre. Every purchase also means 2,000 points on their clubcard! A sales advisor will be appointed to every customer in order to help them find their perfect car. Every customer will also be offered Tesco purchase financing, insurance and breakdown cover. Customers will have peace of mind with a one-month RAC Platinum warranty being offered. There is also a 7 day no hassle money back guarantee, just in case customers are not completely satisfied.

With plenty of promises and positive suggestions, it can be suggested that Tesco’s are indeed offering a distinctive type of car sales experience. The fact customer’s cant view or test drive the car before hand also gives credit to the statement above. From this, it is difficult to anticipate how customers will take to it.
