The British wing of Toyota has gone on record as saying the first quarter of 2017 has been the best month in their history, with sales of 29,415 – a 40% increase on this time last year.

Paul Van Der Burgh of Toyota GB MD, said: “The record results we achieved in March and the strong growth evident throughout the first quarter reflect an important shift in people’s mindset.

“What we are hearing from customers and from our retailers is that interest in clean powertrain technologies is increasing and that the benefits they have for air quality are becoming an increasingly important consideration when buying a vehicle.”

It’s a movement that’s been gathering momentum more rapidly with regards to public acceptance, especially over the past twelve months. With the high levels of NOx and particulate emissions created by diesel engines; Toyota has been proved right in eschewing them in favour of a hybrid solution.

Initially, in many quarters of the motoring media, the hybrid Toyota’s were subjects for derision when they first arrived on the scene, but as the technology has improved to such an extent that opinion has shifted. The cars now enjoy a very high reputation amongst both the public and motoring journalists alike.
